Chamba: A high alert has been sounded in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh following an encounter between security forces and militants in the neighbouring Sanyal area of the Hiranagar sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Thursday (March 27, 2025).
The authorities have heightened security measures, especially at the district’s entry point Tunuhtti in light of the growing threat of cross-border terrorism.
Three Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel and three militants were killed in the encounter.
Increased surveillance at entry points
To ensure the safety of the region, the police, along with armed paramilitary forces, have been deployed at the Tunuhtti entry point.
The heightened security forces are conducting rigorous checks of vehicles coming from other states, aiming to prevent any suspicious individuals from entering the district.
Although vehicle inspections are a regular procedure at the entry point, these have intensified in response to the security situation in neighbouring Jammu and Kashmir.
Vehicle inspection, interrogation of passengers
At the entry point, the police are not only inspecting vehicles but are also questioning passengers to gather crucial information about any potential threats.
The increased vigilance is part of a broader effort to ensure that no individuals linked to the recent militant activity in the Kathua region manage to enter the Chamba district.
Collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police
Following the encounter in Kathua, where weapons and ammunition were seized after a fierce gunfight with terrorists, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies have been put on high alert.
In response to this, the Chamba district police have been instructed to remain vigilant and prepared for any developments.
The authorities are collaborating closely with their counterparts in Jammu and Kashmir to maintain security and prevent any untoward incidents in the region.
