Mandi: A government employee in Himachal Pradesh, who has gained popularity as a social media influencer, has been found guilty of neglecting her official duties. Tehsildar Oshin Sharma, whose social media activities have set a questionable trend among other state government employees, is facing scrutiny for not fulfilling her responsibilities diligently. Her senior officials have issued notices to her and several of her colleagues, but Oshin’s case has gained the most attention, owing to her significant social media influence.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Apurav Devgan confirmed to this correspondent that notices were issued to officials who were found lacking in their duty towards public service. “I have directed that notices be served to all those officials who are not handling public matters properly,” he stated. Repeated attempts to reach Oshin Sharma for her comments were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to calls.
The notice was issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office of Dharampur, following a series of complaints and delays in addressing public matters. The primary reason cited for the notice was a pattern of continuous delays in handling public grievances, which prompted the SDM to take immediate action against the concerned officials.
The Deputy Commissioner had visited the Dharampur area recently, during which multiple lapses were discovered in the functioning of several government officials. These shortcomings were severe enough to warrant prompt action, leading to the issuance of notices.
Oshin Sharma, who currently serves as the Tehsildar of Sandhol, is known for her active presence on social media. She regularly participates in public functions organized by both private and public entities. On her social media platforms, she shares exam preparation tips, personal insights, and promotes awareness on women’s rights and social issues. This online activity has garnered her a substantial following, with her posts attracting numerous views and engagements. However, it appears that her online persona has overshadowed her official responsibilities, resulting in her current predicament.
As the controversy continues to unfold, the incident raises questions about the balance between personal social media influence and professional duty, particularly among government employees.
