Three students from Hisar in Haryana, who were on an educational tour to Himachal Pradesh, were among the six persons killed in a landslide near the Manikaran gurdwara in Kullu district of the state on Sunday (March 30, 2025) evening.
The deceased students were part of a 17-member group from the Haryana School of Digital Marketing Institute (HSDM), located in Sector 14, Hisar.
Among the victims were Manish from Tara Nagar, Hisar; Gulshan from Hansi and Dinita, a student originally from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh but studying at Om University in Hisar. Another student, Prachi from Sector 14 in Hisar, sustained injuries and has been admitted to the Kullu District Hospital.
Gulshan belonged to Dhana Khurd village in Hansi and his parents are yet to be informed about the tragedy. His elder brother and cousin left for Manikaran immediately upon receiving the news.
Family members had advised Gulshan against the trip, but he insisted on going. Adding to the family’s grief, a wedding was scheduled in the household on April 14. To soften the blow, relatives have only informed the family that Gulshan met with an accident, while neighbours are aware of the full extent of the incident.
The group of students had embarked on their Himachal tour from Hisar on March 28. On Sunday, they visited the Manikaran gurdwara when four of them decided to step aside to eat Maggi near the roadside.
At that moment, a sudden landslide triggered by a strong storm brought down a massive tree, crushing the students instantly.
According to HSDM Director Dinesh Jangid, the students were scheduled to return to Hisar on Sunday itself. At the time of the accident, some students were inside the gurdwara while others had gone to fetch their belongings from another vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the landslide caused the tree to collapse onto five to six parked vehicles. Authorities are investigating the incident, while rescue operations were carried out swiftly.
The news of the accident has sent shockwaves through the Hisar community, with friends, families and institute members mourning the untimely loss of young lives.
