From daily-wager’s son to Tehsildar: Mandi’s Jeevan Lal scripts inspiring Himachal Administrative Service success story

Mandi district has witnessed a truly inspiring success story with Jeevan Lal, a native of Suka-Kun village under Kotli sub-division, clearing the prestigious Himachal Administrative Service (HAS) examination.
His achievement has brought immense pride to the region as he is set to take charge as a Tehsildar, marking a remarkable rise rooted in determination and hard work.


Belonging to local MLA Anil Sharma’s native place Kotli, Jeevan Lal’s success was also acknowledged at the political level. The MLA expressed happiness over the achievement and congratulated him through his official Facebook page, terming it a proud moment for the entire constituency and a reflection of the talent emerging from rural Mandi.


Jeevan Lal hails from a humble background. His father works as a daily-wager and the family has faced financial and social challenges over the years. Despite limited resources, Jeevan Lal refused to let circumstances define his future. His success stands as proof that strong resolve and consistent effort can overcome even the toughest barriers.

His journey to the administrative services was neither easy nor direct. Jeevan Lal began his career as a constable, later qualifying as an Audit Inspector, steadily climbing the ladder through discipline and perseverance. Years of hard work finally bore fruit when he cleared the HAS examination, earning a place in the state’s administrative cadre. His rise reflects years of struggle, self-belief and unwavering focus.

HAS result brings statewide recognition

The final results of the HAS Competitive Examination-2025 were declared on Tuesday after the completion of the personality test stage, concluding a rigorous multi-phase selection process. The examination, considered one of the toughest state-level competitive tests, involves a preliminary exam, a main written exam and an interview.


This year’s merit list showcased strong participation from across Himachal Pradesh. Megha Singh Kanwar secured the top rank, while Aanchal Kumari and Vikas Verma were among the other leading performers. Successful candidates hailed from districts including Shimla, Kangra, Hamirpur, Solan, Una, Bilaspur, Kullu and Mandi, highlighting the wide geographical spread of talent.


Jeevan Lal’s success has triggered celebrations across Kotli sub-division and Mandi district. Local residents, panchayat representatives and social organisations extended congratulations, describing his achievement as historic for the region. Many said his journey has transformed him into a symbol of hope and inspiration for young aspirants from rural backgrounds.


Community members noted that his achievement sends a powerful message that children from ordinary families, even those dependent on daily-wage, can rise to positions of responsibility through education and perseverance.


For his parents, Jeevan Lal’s success is a deeply emotional and proud moment when a mason’s son rises to become a Tehsildar through sheer determination. For the youth of Mandi, his journey stands as a reminder that no dream is too big if pursued with honesty, discipline and patience.
