DHARAMSHALA:

Former Dharamshala Mayor Devendra Jaggi met Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in Shimla on Sunday evening and urged him to sanction six new patwar circles in the Dharamshala tehsil to address growing public demand and ease administrative functioning.

During the meeting, Jaggi drew the Chief Minister’s attention to the increasing workload of the existing 24 patwar circles operating under Dharamshala tehsil. He pointed out that as Dharamshala serves as both the district headquarters and a major tourist destination, the volume of land-related work has been rising steadily in recent years.

Jaggi emphasised that rapid urbanisation, expanding population and the area’s hilly geography have led to a significant surge in tasks such as land records maintenance, demarcation and other revenue matters. “The current number of patwar circles is proving insufficient, forcing residents to wait for long durations to get their work done,” he said.

To enhance administrative efficiency and provide greater convenience to citizens, Jaggi proposed the establishment of new patwar circles at McLeodganj, Kand, Sidhpur, Sukkad, Kand Karadiana and Narwana. He said these areas are witnessing a continuous rise in land-related transactions, compelling people to travel repeatedly to the tehsil headquarters. “The creation of new patwar circles will benefit both rural and urban residents while strengthening local governance,” he added.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while responding positively to the proposal, assured that the state government remains committed to improving public services. He said that all feasible proposals aimed at increasing administrative convenience in key regions like Dharamshala would be considered sympathetically and on priority.
