Social worker and former independent candidate from Dharamshala Assembly constituency, Vipan Kumar Nehria, has alleged that farmers in Kangra Valley are facing severe fertilizer shortages during the ongoing sowing season of Rabi crops.

Nehria stated that despite the peak sowing period, farmers—especially those planting wheat—are being forced to make repeated rounds to depots in Tang, Narwana, and Pathiar, where fertilizer is unavailable. “As soon as stock arrives, it is sold out within hours, leaving many farmers empty-handed,” he said in a press release issued Thursday.

He criticized both the government and the administration for “sleeping over the issue” and failing to address farmers’ concerns. According to Nehria, neither the Agriculture Minister nor the department has taken steps to ensure adequate supply, forcing several farmers to sow their crops without fertilizer.

Farmers in the region typically use IFFCO’s 12-32-16 fertilizer during wheat sowing. The lack of availability, Nehria warned, is causing widespread distress and could impact crop yields. He urged the administration and concerned departments to immediately arrange sufficient fertilizer stock to support farmers during this crucial season.
