Mandi: In a shocking late-night incident, a dhaba owner in Mandi was shot and robbed by two unidentified miscreants, raising serious concerns about the increasing use of firearms in Himachal Pradesh. The state, known for its peaceful environment, is witnessing a worrying rise in violent crimes, leaving locals and authorities alarmed.

Midnight Robbery Turns Violent

According to the police report, two individuals arrived at the dhaba around midnight and ordered food for takeaway. While the owner was packing their meal, he noticed them stealing cash from the counter. When he confronted them, one of the accused pulled out a firearm and shot him, injuring him near the chin and ear.

Amid the chaos, the assailants grabbed an LCD television and a few other valuables before fleeing the scene. The injured dhaba owner was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Political Leaders Take Note

It has been learned that the victim personally called former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur over the phone and informed him about the incident. Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Sundernagar and the Chief Spokesperson of the Himachal Pradesh BJP, Rakesh Jamwal, visited the hospital and met the injured dhaba owner.

Police Investigation Underway

Following the attack, police have registered an FIR against unknown persons. Based on the victim’s statement, one of the suspects was wearing a white cap, while the other was sporting a black helmet. Multiple teams have been deployed to track down the accused.

Senior police officials have expressed concern over the increasing misuse of firearms in the state, which has traditionally remained free from such violent crimes.

Rising Crime in Himachal: A Growing Concern

The incident has sparked fear among locals, as cases of shootings and violent robberies are rare in Himachal Pradesh. Residents are urging authorities to take strict action to curb such crimes and ensure the safety of businesses operating in remote areas.
