MANDI
The holy month of Sawan—considered one of the most auspicious periods in the Hindu calendar—is a time when devotion, charity, and community service find their purest expression. Across the country, Kheer Bhandaras (free community distribution of sweet rice pudding) are organised as acts of faith, drawing devotees in large numbers. This tradition, deeply rooted in Hindu culture, symbolises purity, devotion to Lord Shiva, and the spirit of sharing.
In keeping with this sacred sentiment, Press Club Mandi brought together faith and service by organising a Kheer Bhandara in the city on Monday. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the press, administration, and the local community.
Deputy Commissioner Mandi, Apoorv Devgan, attended as the chief guest. Upon arrival, he personally served kheer to devotees and praised the initiative, calling it a true reflection of Sawan’s spirit. “Such events during this holy month are a symbol of devotion and community harmony. It is heartening to see journalists, apart from reporting news, also actively engaging in social service,” he said.
An Expression of Faith and Giving
In the month of Sawan, kheer is considered a sacred offering to Lord Shiva, especially on Mondays, which are dedicated to Him. Distributing it among the public is believed to bring blessings and spread goodwill. The Press Club Mandi’s effort not only carried forward this tradition but also strengthened bonds between the media fraternity and the community they serve.
Collective Effort for a Noble Cause
Press Club President Subhash Thakur extended his gratitude to all members, administrative officials, and well-wishers for making the event a success. “This initiative was possible because of collective efforts. Such acts of service will continue in the future as part of our commitment to both journalism and society,” he said.
