Delhi woman, on vacation in Himachal with friends, alleges rape by hotel owner in Dharamshala

A woman from Delhi has accused a hotel owner of rape in McLeodganj near Dharamshala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.

In her complaint lodged with the police, the woman said she was visiting Himachal Pradesh with her three friends. On July 20, the group checked into a hotel at McLeodganj, and that the hotel owner was an acquaintance of the woman’s employer in Delhi.

The woman claimed as she was unwell, she decided to stay back in the hotel while her friends went sightseeing. She alleged that the accused hotel owner, Shubham, allegedly entered her room and raped her. The woman alleged that the accused threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the incident to anyone.

The police have arrested the accused and taken him into custody after producing him in court. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and a medical examination was conducted on the woman.

Additional Superintendent of Police Bir Bahadur confirmed the arrest and said a further investigation was underway.
