Dalhousie: The Income Tax Department, Dalhousie, held an awareness programme at the Government Senior Secondary School, Banikhet, to educate students on the importance of paying taxes and being responsible citizens.
The event was organised under the directions of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax-I, Chandigarh, Shalini Bhargava Kaushal, and the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Shimla Range, Sridhar Dora.
Income Tax Officer Vineet Kumar, Inspector Ankit Malik, and tax assistants Rajesh Sharma, Shobhit Chawla, Pankaj Kumar and Rajeev Tandon represented the department at the programme.
Students urged to build ‘tax culture’
Officials explained the working of the Income Tax Department and highlighted why paying taxes on time is vital for the nation’s growth. “Developing a good tax culture among children will help them become aware, responsible citizens in the future,” Vineet Kumar told students while answering their queries.
The team also emphasised that such outreach drives aim to demystify the tax system and encourage civic participation from a young age.
Integrity pledge under Vigilance Week
As part of Vigilance Awareness Week-2025, students, teachers and I-T officials took an Integrity Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to transparency and ethical behaviour.
Department officials said similar initiatives will be organised in other schools and colleges across Chamba district to spread tax awareness.
The I-T team thanked Principal Pritam Chandra Thakur, faculty members Hari Prasad Sharma, Neeraj Sharma and Ajay Kumar, along with the teaching staff and students, for their cooperation.
