In a significant step toward enhancing tourism education and workforce development, the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC). The agreement aims to launch joint training programs to upskill personnel in the tourism sector.
Congress leader from Dalhousie, Manish Sareen, hailed the initiative as a testament to HPTDC Chairman R.S. Bali’s commitment to tourism development. “This MoU reflects a forward-looking approach and a sincere effort by R.S. Bali to strengthen Himachal’s tourism ecosystem,” Sareen said.
Academic-Industry Collaboration for Practical Learning
Signed at the CUHP Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat, the MoU outlines a framework for skill development and manpower enhancement programs for HPTDC employees. Under this partnership:
- MBA (Tourism) students from CUHP will be able to intern at HPTDC hotels, gaining hands-on experience in hospitality services and marketing.
- University guests will receive concessions on accommodation and meals at HPTDC properties.
- CUHP will launch a Hotel Management course this academic session, with practical training conducted at HPTDC’s training center in Khaniyara.
Future Plans: Guide Training and Licensing
The MoU also includes provisions for:
- Preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to guide future initiatives.
- Launching tourist guide training programs in coordination with the state tourism department.
- Streamlining the guide certification and licensing process, ensuring smoother integration into the tourism workforce.
Aligned with NEP 2020
This academic-industrial collaboration is seen as a major stride in promoting skill development and enriching tourism education in Himachal Pradesh. It aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes experiential learning and industry partnerships.
