KANGRA: A friendly cricket match in the Salooni subdivision of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh ended in tragedy when a minor argument escalated into a deadly assault.
In a fit of rage, a player struck his teammate on the head with a cricket bat, leading to his death while being taken to hospital.
The shocking in incident took place on Sunday at Manjota ground in Pichhla Diyur panchayat under the Salooni subdivision of Chamba district.
Victim succumbs to injuries en route to hospital
During the match, a dispute broke out between two players, which quickly turned violent. In the heat of the moment, one player picked up his bat and forcefully hit his opponent on the head.
The victim, identified as 32-year-old Kyum Khan, son of Pir Mohammad from Laudli village under Salooni subdivision of Chamba district, collapsed immediately after the attack.
His fellow players attempted to rush him to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries before reaching medical assistance.
Police launch manhunt for accused
The accused fled the scene. The local police have registered a case of *murder and initiated a search for the suspect.
Anil Walia, acting in-charge of Kihar police station, confirmed that the body has been sent for post-mortem.
Investigators are also summoning all players present during the match for questioning to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal altercation.
