The Department of Music at Government Arya College, Nurpur, organised a 36-hour add-on course dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Himachal Pradesh’s rich traditional handicraft—Chamba Rumal embroidery. The course ran from October 8, 2025, to February 25, 2026, under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Anil Kumar Thakur and was coordinated by Dr. Bharti Bhagsain, Assistant Professor, Department of Music.
A total of 32 students actively participated in the program. They received both theoretical and practical training in the traditional techniques, decorative styles, color schemes, and cultural significance of Chamba Rumal embroidery. The sessions were conducted by Mrs. Dinesh Kumari, a Presidential Award recipient, whose expert mentorship helped students explore not only the intricate details of this folk art but also its historical background and professional prospects.
At the valedictory function, certificates were awarded to the participants. The event was graced by faculty members including Dr. Diljit Singh, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. Anjana Gautam, and Prof. Manjeet Singh. On this occasion, the Principal highlighted the importance of skill-based courses in fostering creativity, self-reliance, and cultural awareness. The organizer expressed gratitude to the trainer and all participants for their enthusiastic involvement.
This add-on course proved to be a significant and inspiring initiative, enhancing students’ creative abilities, skill development, and entrepreneurial outlook. Moreover, such academic activities contribute meaningfully to the preservation and promotion of India’s traditional handicrafts and cultural heritage.
