NGT had imposed ban on green, core areas
Had also banned more than two-and-a-half-storey buildings in planning area

Shimla: Construction in Himachal’s capital Shimla will be carried out as per the development plan in the wake of the Supreme Court dismissal dismissal of the 2017 order of the National Green Tribual (NGT) banning construction in green and core areas of the state capital.
The NGT, in its order, had also banned the construction of buildings which were more than two and a half storeys.
The state government had challenged this NGT order in the apex court. The SC heard the state government, petitioner Yogendra Mohan Sengupta and others to give its ruling on Thursday.
The SC had reserved its order after hearing the case on December 12, 2023.
The NGT order had been issued on November 16, 2017. Earlier, as per the Town and Country Planning Act in the planning area construction was allowed up to four storeys.
