Kangra: In a significant political congregation, Himachal Pradesh’s Congress leadership — including key ministers and senior party functionaries — will gather in Kangra today for a grand dinner hosted on the occasion of the wedding reception of Dr. Rajesh Sharma’s son. Dr. Sharma currently serves as the Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board.
This rare assembly is being viewed as a major show of strength and an opportunity for “dinner diplomacy,” where top Congress leaders are expected to engage in crucial informal discussions aimed at party consolidation and conflict resolution.
The event will witness the presence of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, State Assembly Speaker zEducation Minister Rohit Thakur, and several cabinet ministers.
Also attending will be AICC in-charge Rajni Patil and senior leader Anand Sharma.
Sources indicate that the evening will not just be ceremonial but will also involve behind-the-scenes deliberations on pressing issues — including strategy building for the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections, party coordination, and addressing dissatisfaction among some MLAs and office bearers.
The gathering is also being seen as a platform to project unity, especially amid recent political turbulence and allegations of factionalism.
The Sukhu government, which has faced challenges from within over the past months, could use this opportunity to iron out differences.
While officially a social event, insiders have confirmed that the gathering is a carefully crafted political occasion. Several key leaders from all districts of Himachal, including former MLAs and district presidents, are expected to be present.
The district administration and party machinery are in full gear to ensure the success of the event, which will be attended by a cross-section of the Congress top brass.
Given the backdrop of internal dynamics and upcoming by-elections, this dinner in Kangra is poised to be more than a social affair — it may shape the trajectory of the Congress party in Himachal Pradesh for the months to come.
