Dharamshala
Intensifying the political battle in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday launched a direct attack on BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma, claiming that the legislator represents the “sold-out faction” within the BJP. Sukhu asserted that the Congress is gaining strong ground in Dharamshala and will win the assembly seat in the next election.
the Chief Minister said the BJP had become a party “dominated by vested interests,” and accused Sudhir Sharma of prioritising personal gains over public service. Sukhu said, “The Congress will wrest Dharamshala seat in the next election.”
Long-Running Feud Intensifies
The war of words between Sukhu and Sudhir Sharma has escalated over the past months. The Chief Minister has repeatedly accused Sudhir of backdoor dealings, alleging that he had earlier played a role in attempting political bargaining with multiple MLAs. He also hinted at irregularities linked to Sudhir’s financial dealings and land-related matters.
Meanwhile, Sudhir Sharma has been hitting back at the Chief Minister, accusing him of running a “vindictive and directionless government” and failing to deliver on development promises for Dharamshala.
Congress Confident of Reclaiming Dharamshala
Sukhu’s fresh attack is seen as part of the Congress’ renewed strategy to strengthen its position in Dharamshala ahead of the next election cycle. The Chief Minister claimed that people are “fed up with money-driven politics” and are now supporting the Congress for stability and transparent governance.
The Dharamshala seat was won by Sudhir Sharma in the last bypoll, where the BJP secured a comfortable lead. However, with changing political equations and the Congress government trying to consolidate support in Kangra, the battle for Dharamshala is once again heating up.
Political Temperature on the Rise
The ongoing confrontation between Sukhu and Sudhir indicates a fierce contest in the coming months. The Congress is planning a series of organisational and public outreach campaigns in the region, while the BJP is banking on Sudhir Sharma’s popularity and organisational network.
As both sides sharpen their attacks, Dharamshala has emerged as one of the most politically sensitive constituencies in the state.
