Cloudburst Triggers Havoc in Himachal’s Rampur; Vehicles Swept Away, Rescue Operations Underway

Shimla/Rampur: Several parts of Himachal Pradesh witnessed intense rainfall on Saturday evening, with Rampur in Shimla district facing the brunt of a sudden cloudburst. The incident occurred near the Jagatkhana area, causing widespread destruction and panic among residents.

Massive Destruction in Jagatkhana Due to Cloudburst

At approximately 6:00 PM, a cloudburst struck Jagatkhana, a locality adjacent to Rampur. According to eyewitnesses, the region was suddenly inundated with a torrent of rainwater and debris, resulting in significant damage to property and infrastructure. Multiple vehicles parked along the roadside were swept away by the gushing waters.

Preliminary reports suggest that nearly 10 vehicles may have been carried away by the flood. The situation is being closely monitored by local authorities.

Flash Floods Bring Traffic to a Standstill

The deluge of water and debris has rendered roads in the area completely impassable. Eyewitnesses described the sudden onset of the flood, accompanied by thunder and torrential rain, which quickly overwhelmed the region. Within minutes, the sheer force of the water swept away vehicles and choked key transit routes.

Rescue and Relief Operations in Full Swing

Local administration, along with police and emergency response teams, launched immediate rescue and relief operations. Personnel have reached the site and are working to clear the debris and trace any missing individuals. Residents and tourists in the area have been advised to remain indoors and avoid travel until the situation stabilizes.

Rise in Sutlej River Water Level Prompts Caution

Several of the vehicles swept away by the floodwaters have reportedly been carried down to the banks of the Sutlej River. As a result, a sudden rise in the river’s water level has been observed. Authorities have issued alerts to residents living near the riverbanks and urged them to remain vigilant.

The district administration continues to monitor the situation closely and has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure public safety.
