Mandi: In a late-night rescue operation, a youth was safely brought back to shore after being stranded overnight on a rock in the middle of Beas river. The incident occurred near the confluence of Beas and Suketi rivers, a spot known for its swift currents.

The rescued person has been identified as Aman, son of Paramjit, hailing from Chandigarh, who ventured onto the rock at night. Unaware of the rising water levels due to the ongoing monsoon rain, Aman found himself trapped as the river swelled around him. Local residents spotted him there in the morning and promptly alerted the authorities.

A team from the Mandi City police station, led by Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar, reached the spot and coordinated the rescue. A rescue team successfully brought out Aman, who was unharmed but appeared shaken by the ordeal.

“The youth is currently being questioned for more details, including his exact address. We are conducting verification procedures and will notify his family once confirmed,” said Sub-Inspector Kumar.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Aman had been in the area for work and had been wandering around at night, finding shelter wherever he could.

The district administration has reiterated warnings to stay away from rivers and streams during the monsoon season, emphasising the unpredictability of water levels. This incident underscores the dangers of ignoring such advisories.

In light of the incident, Sub-Inspector Kumar urged residents to ensure proper police verification for individuals from other regions staying with them. “Verification helps us maintain community safety and provides necessary information in case of emergencies,” he added.
