MANDI: The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway (NH-3) will undergo a daily two-hour closure between Mandi and Pandoh from July 27 to 31 for essential maintenance work.

The decision was announced by Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan following a request from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The closure will take place daily from 11 am to 1 pm to allow for the removal of hazardous rocks and debris along the stretch.

According to the NHAI, there are several areas between Mandi and Pandoh where landslide risks are present. Large boulders and rocks are precariously positioned on the hillsides, posing a significant threat to commuters.

Additionally, debris from recent landslides has accumulated on the road, further endangering the safety of those using the highway. Given the urgency and potential danger, the district administration has prioritised the removal of these hazards.

The daily closures are intended to ensure the safety of workers and commuters alike, while allowing for the efficient clearing of dangerous materials from the roadway.

During the closure periods, travellers have been advised to use alternative routes. Those heading from Mandi to Kullu and Manali can take the Kamand-Kataula-Bajoura route.

Conversely, travellers coming from Kullu can use the Gohar-Chailchowk-Dadaur route to reach their destinations. It is important to note that these alternative routes are suitable only for smaller vehicles; larger vehicles will need to wait until the highway reopens.

The authorities have urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and to exercise caution while navigating the alternative routes, which may be unfamiliar to some drivers. The temporary inconvenience is a necessary measure to ensure long-term safety on this crucial highway.
