In a remarkable initiative to promote winter sports and curb substance abuse, the Pangi Ski Association, Sural is organizing a Basic Skiing Course in the remote tribal region of Pangi Valley. The training camp will run from January 25 to February 11, 2026, in Sural Valley, offering young participants professional guidance in skiing techniques while encouraging a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.

Association President Kuldeep Dhutwani emphasized that the program is not just about teaching skiing but also about steering youth away from negative influences such as drug addiction. “Sports channelize energy in the right direction, instilling confidence, discipline, and purpose. Our aim is to build a healthier society through this initiative,” he said.

Training Highlights

  • Skiing basics: balance, speed control, safe descent on slopes
  • Proper use of equipment and emergency precautions
  • Step-by-step training under experienced instructors

The camp will conclude with a skiing competition, where participants will be evaluated and rewarded for their performance.

Cultural Preservation Efforts

Beyond sports, the association is also focusing on cultural identity. On March 12–13, 2026, a cultural competition will be held, highlighting Pangwali attire, folk dances, and traditional songs. Dhutwani expressed concern that modern influences are drawing youth away from their heritage. “Our culture is our identity. If we lose touch with our roots, future generations will be deprived of their legacy,” he said.

Broader Impact

  • Tourism boost: Sural Valley’s snowy slopes already attract visitors; structured winter sports could make it a national hub.
  • Employment opportunities: Trained youth may become instructors, guides, or adventure organizers.
  • Community support: Parents and social groups have welcomed the initiative, recognizing its role in youth development and social unity.

Dhutwani concluded by stressing that the combined effort of sports, culture, and social awareness will bring positive transformation to Pangi. The skiing camp and cultural events are expected to not only nurture talent but also strengthen the region’s identity and resilience.
