Una: The establishment of the Bulk Drug Park at Haroli in Una district is set to unlock a world of opportunities for science students across Himachal Pradesh.

This ambitious national project is not only a significant step towards self-reliance in the pharmaceutical sector, but also a powerful catalyst for education, research and employment for the region’s youth.

The park is expected to create 15,000 to 20,000 direct and around 30,000 indirect jobs, opening doors for students with backgrounds in pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, chemistry, BSc, MSc, pharmacy and lab technology. These roles are expected to come with attractive packages and immense career growth potential.

Hub of learning, innovation, opportunity

The Bulk Drug Park is envisioned as more than just an industrial zone. It is poised to become a comprehensive hub of education, skill development and innovation for science students.
State-of-the-art laboratories, centres of excellence and modern training facilities will offer students access to real-world industrial environments and research exposure.

To ensure local youth are industry-ready, the Himachal Pradesh government plans to provide technical training programmes tailored to the needs of the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors. These initiatives will equip students with hands-on skills, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industrial practice.

Encouraging startups, scientific innovation

The pharmaceutical companies setting up operations in the park will follow global industry standards, offering students an opportunity to learn and work at a level previously accessible only through out-of-state or international placements.

This local-global connect will empower students to aim for careers not just in India, but in pharmaceutical sectors worldwide.

With government support in the form of affordable land, subsidised power and infrastructural facilities, science students will also have the chance to explore entrepreneurial ventures, including biotech and pharma startups. The park aims to nurture a culture of innovation, offering young minds the resources and ecosystem needed to transform ideas into successful enterprises.

“The Una Bulk Drug Park represents a transformative shift for science students in Himachal Pradesh. It promises to be a launchpad for careers, innovation and global exposure — right at their doorstep. As this mega-project takes shape, it carries with it the aspirations of thousands of young students, ready to shape the future of India’s pharmaceutical and scientific landscape,” says Shashi Verma, a science teacher in Una.
