Dharamshala: Extending support to flood-affected families of Bharmour in Chamba district, the Brahmin Kalyan Parishad on Monday announced a contribution of ₹3 lakh for relief and rehabilitation work.

The cheques were formally presented by Munish Sharma, President of the Himachal Pradesh Basketball Association, in Dharamshala. The occasion was marked by the presence of former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, who was in the town coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kangra.

Sharma said the contribution was a modest effort to assist the people of Bharmour, one of the worst-hit regions during the recent spell of heavy rains and flash floods. “The devastation in Bharmour has deeply pained us. This contribution reflects the Parishad’s commitment to stand with affected families in their time of need,” he added.

Jairam Thakur lauded the gesture, saying such initiatives by social and community organisations inspire collective responsibility towards disaster relief. “While the government continues to provide support, community participation is equally important. Contributions like these ensure that help reaches the grassroots quickly,” Thakur said.

Bharmour, known for its tribal population and remote location in Chamba, bore the brunt of torrential rains that triggered landslides, disrupted roads, and damaged homes and agricultural land. Local authorities have been struggling to restore connectivity and provide immediate assistance to affected households.

The Parishad’s contribution will be directed towards relief measures in coordination with local administration. Residents expressed hope that such support would accelerate recovery in the hilly region, where accessibility often hampers timely aid.

With voluntary groups, community organisations, and individuals stepping forward, relief efforts in Himachal Pradesh are gaining momentum as the state rebuilds from one of the most damaging monsoon seasons in recent years.
