MANDI:
Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur on Saturday (October 4, 2025) categorically denied speculations about his being in the race for Himachal Pradesh chief minister’s post for the next Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters in Mandi, Anurag Thakur stated firmly that such assumptions were “completely baseless” and should be put to rest once and for all. “I am a party worker and my duty is to strengthen the organisation. That’s all I am focused on,” he said.
Anurag Thakur said that his role in the forthcoming elections would be purely as an ordinary party worker, as assigned by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “Such talks on social media have no substance. Neither in my mind nor within the party has such a thought ever arisen,” he clarified.
Asked whether he wished to return to state politics, Anurag Thakur smiled and responded, “I am already in Himachal politics. I am grateful to the people of Hamirpur who have elected me five times and sent me to Parliament to voice the concerns of Himachal’s people.”
Adding a personal touch, he said, “Hamirpur is my constituency and Mandi is the place of my in-laws. If anything happens in Mandi, I’ll come without calling.”
Concluding his interaction, the senior BJP leader remarked that every party worker must take it upon themselves to help the BJP regain what Himachal has lost under the present Congress government. “Our collective responsibility is to strengthen the party and bring the state back on the path of progress,” he said.
