Dharamshala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of a ₹1,500 crore relief package for disaster-hit Himachal Pradesh has been welcomed by BJP leaders in the state, who said the move reflects the Centre’s sensitivity towards the plight of affected families.
BJP spokesperson Trilok Kapoor issued a statement on Sunday, describing the package as a “timely and compassionate step” that would provide immediate support as well as a roadmap for long-term rehabilitation.
Kapoor said the Prime Minister’s visit to Dharamshala last week demonstrated his deep concern for the people of Himachal, a state he often calls close to his heart. “By directly interacting with victims, chairing an emergency review, and announcing concrete measures, the Prime Minister has shown that the Centre stands firmly with Himachal in this difficult time,” he said.
He added that the relief package was not limited to emergency assistance but also included structural support for recovery. The advance release of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi installment, along with geo-tagging of damaged houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, will ensure faster delivery of aid.
Kapoor also highlighted provisions for the restoration of national highways, repair of educational institutions, construction of water conservation structures, and financial aid for farmers and livestock owners, describing them as crucial for rebuilding livelihoods in rural Himachal.
Welcoming the Prime Minister’s recognition of rescue workers, he said that Modi’s appreciation of the NDRF, SDRF, Army, administration, and disaster volunteers has boosted morale at a critical juncture.
“The message is clear — this is not just about relief but about rebuilding Himachal with renewed strength,” Kapoor said, urging people to remain united as rehabilitation efforts gather pace.
