Himachal BJP holds massive protest near Assembly, alleges Congress govt controlled by mafias

Shimla: The opposition BJP has been holding a massive protest outside the Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Thursday (March 27, 2025) during the ongoing budget session.

The BJP claimed that nearly 10,000 party workers from across the state were participating in the demonstration, which aims to highlight the failures of the Congress-led government.

Videos emerging from the protest site showed senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur welcoming party workers from across the state at the venue.

A senior BJP leader alleged that the protest was directed against the “mafia rule” that had engulfed every sector in the state.

“Transfer, scrap, drug, liquor, contractor, forest, mining, land and water mafias are dominating Himachal. Corruption has reached its peak, and it is rampant in all government departments,” he alleged.
BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal asserted that the protest would expose the Congress government’s failures.

Election guarantees remain unfulfilled, claims Bindal

“The present Congress government has set records in lying. The election guarantees they promised remain unfulfilled, yet they continue making tall claims,” he said.

Bindal alleged that the two-and-a-half-year tenure of the Sukhu-led government had been marred by failures.

“While the Chief Minister’s close friends are enjoying privileges, the common people are suffering. Every section of society feels betrayed under this government,” he claimed.

Ex-CM Jai Ram targets govt over rising crime

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur accused the government of making false promises. “The slogan ‘Jhuthi Congress, Jhuthi Ghoshna’ (false congress, false promises) is now resonating across the state. The government has reduced itself to a regime of fake assurances,” he said.

Raising concerns over law and order, Thakur alleged that drug trafficking has become a severe problem under the Congress rule.

“The government is not serious about discussions in the Assembly. Transfer, forest, drug, land and mining mafias are thriving with government protection,” he alleged.

Jai Ram Thakur also criticised the state’s financial management, claiming that the economy had been devastated.
“In just two months, over 10 deaths have occurred due to drug overdose. Social security pensions have not been disbursed for months. Even MLA funds are not being released,” he said.

Several senior BJP leaders, including state in-charge Srikant Sharma, co-incharge Sanjay Tandon, former Union Minister and MPs Anurag Thakur, Suresh Kashyap, Dr Rajeev Bhardwaj and MP Kangana Ranaut were expected to be present at the protest.
