Amidst the ongoing political uncertainty in Himachal Pradesh, the opposition BJP has been persistently highlighting the alleged minority status of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government.
Addressing a press conference in Shimla on Saturday (March 2, 2024), BJP MLA and former Assembly Speaker Vipin Parmar asserted that ‘revdis’ (alms) were being distributed by the Congress government in an attempt to salvage the situation.
Parmar emphasised that BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan’s victory in the Rajya Sabha elections, with the support of elected Congress MLAs, had rocked the state’s Congress government. He criticised the subsequent disqualification of the six rebel Congress MLAs who cross-voted without listening to their arguments.
Parmar condemned the Chief Minister’s derogatory reference to dissenting MLAs as “black snakes”, labeling such language as indecent. He highlighted the burning of effigies of dissenting MLAs by the Congress, saying it could lead to chaos in the state. He underscored the government’s minority status, citing instances where BJP members were expelled from the House and the government lacked sufficient majority during critical Assembly sessions.
Parmar refuted claims of BJP coercion on Congress MLAs, asserting that they acted according to conscience. He expressed opposition concerns about the state’s trajectory under the current administration.
