Hamirpur: Former Industries Minister and BJP MLA from Jaswan-Paragpur, Bikram Thakur, has taken on the ruling Congress government in Hamirpur, the home district of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. On Sunday, Thakur led the “Aakrosh Rally” in Hamirpur, a stronghold of BJP MP and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, intensifying his attack on the government.

Bikram Thakur has been a vocal critic of the Congress administration since it assumed power in January 2023. One of the first issues he raised was the hike in fuel taxes, which, he argued, increased the financial burden on all sections of society.

Recently, Thakur took to social media to question Congress’s adherence to constitutional principles. He shared a photo of national Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi holding the Constitution, while highlighting an incident where a government bus driver was issued a notice after a passenger played a video critical of Rahul Gandhi. “Is the Congress truly following the Constitution in Himachal?” Thakur asked.

At a press conference preceding the rally, Thakur criticized the Congress government for Himachal Pradesh’s slip to 21st rank in quality of education, a sharp decline from its earlier position among the top three states. He questioned how the Congress plans to create jobs while neglecting the education sector.

“We had mandated a 70:30 ratio for local employment in industries setting up in Himachal. But under Congress rule, industrialists are struggling to find qualified candidates because the government has failed to innovate in education,” Thakur said.

Bikram Thakur’s strong stance against the Congress government has added to the BJP’s momentum, as the party continues to mount pressure on the administration over its policies and governance. The rally in Hamirpur further underscores the BJP’s determination to challenge the Congress in key districts ahead of upcoming political battles.
