The Himachal Pradesh government has come under sharp criticism after announcing the deferment of employees’ and officers’ salaries for six months. BJP state media co-incharge Advocate Vishw Chakshu has termed the decision a clear failure of the Sukhu-led government, accusing it of burdening employees to cover up financial mismanagement.
Chakshu alleged that the government, which made tall promises during elections, is now unable to ensure timely salary payments to its own workforce — a situation he described as deeply worrying. He questioned what circumstances had forced the government to delay salary disbursement and claimed the move reflects flawed economic policies and weak administration.
Highlighting the impact, Chakshu said the decision will affect thousands of families at a time when inflation is rising, potentially pushing employees into financial crisis. He also expressed concern that the deferred salaries may not be released in full later, citing past instances where arrears and dearness allowance (DA) benefits were withheld.
The BJP leader demanded that the government immediately reconsider the decision, ensure timely salary payments, and make the state’s actual financial condition public.
