Kangra:

A 48-year-old woman from Karnhgat in the Lambagaon area of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh died on Wednesday (October 9, 2025), several days after sustaining injuries in an alleged assault linked to a family dispute.

The deceased, identified as Anjana Devi, had been admitted to Tanda Medical College after she complained of severe abdominal pain.

According to the police, the incident took place on October 1. Anjana Devi and her husband Harnam Singh lived separately from their son. A heated argument reportedly broke out between the father and son when the latter visited the house after being informed by his sister about his mother’s illness. The altercation soon turned violent and when Anjana Devi tried to intervene, her son allegedly kicked her in the abdomen.

Following the assault, Anjana Devi’s condition deteriorated rapidly. She was first taken to a hospital in Jai Singhpur and later referred to Palampur, where doctors found that a vein in her abdomen had ruptured. She was subsequently shifted to Tanda Medical College, where she underwent surgery on October 3 but succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.

A police official said that a case of assault had already been registered. “We are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of d*eath, whether it was due to the ruptured vein or the assault,” he said.
