Palampur : On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Kargil War hero Martyr Captain Saurabh Kalia, Palampur MLA Ashish Butail paid floral tributes at the martyr’s statue in Saurabh Van Vihar on Sunday. The solemn ceremony was attended by family members, officials, and local dignitaries who gathered to honour the brave son of India.
Speaking at the event, MLA Butail said that Captain Saurabh Kalia’s supreme sacrifice for the nation during the Kargil War would always be remembered. “His martyrdom fills every Indian heart with pride and inspires generations with patriotism, courage, and a deep sense of duty,” he said. Butail emphasized the importance of teaching the youth about such sacrifices so they may contribute meaningfully to the nation’s service.

Captain Saurabh Kalia was one of the first Indian soldiers to sacrifice his life during the Kargil War in 1999. His bravery and sacrifice continue to inspire countless Indians, particularly in his hometown of Palampur, where his memory is deeply cherished.
Captain Kalia’s father, Dr. N.K. Kalia, and brother Vaibhav Kalia were present at the ceremony. They were joined by Palampur Municipal Corporation Mayor Gopal Nag, Deputy Mayor Raj Kumar, Councillor Amit Manu Sharma, SDM Palampur Netra Meti, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Ashish Sharma, Tehsildar Sajan Bagga, DFO Dr. Sanjeev Sharma, Forest Department officials, and other local dignitaries.
The gathering observed a moment of silence to pay homage to the martyr. Floral wreaths were laid at his statue as a mark of respect. The tribute served as a reminder of the nation’s debt to its martyrs and reinforced the message that their legacy lives on in the hearts of the people.
