Palampur: Stepping forward for environmental stewardship, Palampur MLA Ashish Butail inaugurated a tree plantation drive under the “Women for Trees – An Amrit Mitra Initiative” at Nandan Park on Sunday. The campaign is a joint effort by the Palampur Municipal Corporation and the Rajput Kalyan Sabha, with 140 saplings of diverse species planted around the statue of Maharana Pratap.
Butail planted a deodar sapling to launch the event and commended the civic body’s efforts in enhancing greenery and promoting sustainability. He emphasized that environmental protection is a shared duty and spotlighted local waste management strides—plastic waste segregation and recycling through cement factories—as a model for urban cleanliness.
The MLA also highlighted recent developmental milestones, including Palampur Hospital’s top ranking in the state under the “Kayakalp” initiative, and ongoing construction of a parking facility at the bus stand. He praised the collaborative efforts of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, councillors, and Municipal Corporation staff.
Commending local participation, Butail acknowledged the Rajput Kalyan Sabha and residents for maintaining Nandan Park and preserving the Maharana Pratap statue. He announced plans for a protective shed over the statue as a mark of cultural pride and preservation.
