SHIMLA: Even as the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government in Himachal Pradesh is all set to celebrate the completion of its one year in rule by holding a grand function in Dharamshala on Monday (December 11, 2023), the opposition BJP is looking to counter the event by observing the occasion as ‘Aakrosh Divas’ (‘Anger Day’).
The BJP is planning to hold protests at the district level across the state on December 11, which will culminate in a mega demonstration in Kangra on December 18. Incidentally, the Congress is holding its programme at Dharamshala, the headquarters of Kangra district.
BJP state president and former Nahan MLA Dr Rajiv Bindal said that the one-year tenure of the Congress government had allegedly been disappointing, so the ruling regime had nothing to celebrate.
Dr Bindal maintained that the government had “not fully fulfilled even a single guarantee of the 10 the Congress had made before the Assembly elections this year”. “Instead of generating jobs and opening new institutions, a large number of offices opened by the previous Jai Ram Thakur government were also closed. The Congress government has not taken even a single decision in the public interest. In such a situation, the ‘failures’ of the government will be celebrated as ‘Aakrosh Divas’,” he said.
The BJP state chief alleged that this had been the most disappointing tenure of any government in Himachal’s history to date.
On the ongoing tension between the Sukhu government and the Congress organisation, Dr Bindal said the BJP had nothing to do with their mutual fight, “but it should not harm the state’s welfare”.
