As part of the state-wide Anti-Drug and Anti-Chitta Campaign launched under the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, a review meeting of the Narcotics Control Committee (NNC) was held at Gram Panchayat Sulyali in Nurpur subdivision.
Senior Officials Lead the Review
The meeting was chaired by the Superintendent of Police (SP), Nurpur, while the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Nurpur, attended as the chief guest. Officers from various departments, Panchayati Raj Institution representatives, members of educational institutions, women’s groups, youth clubs and local residents participated actively in the discussion.
Focus on Enforcement, Awareness and Rehabilitation
During the meeting, a detailed review of ongoing anti-drug initiatives in the area was carried out. Key issues discussed included:
- Action against drug trafficking and peddlers
- Awareness campaigns among youth and vulnerable groups
- Identification of sensitive and high-risk areas
- Rehabilitation and support for drug-affected individuals
- Strengthening inter-departmental coordination
The discussions emphasized a holistic approach combining strict enforcement with community awareness and rehabilitation.

Administration’s Strong Commitment Highlighted
It was informed during the meeting that in the last two months, nine Panchayat-level Narcotics Control Committee meetings have been attended by the Deputy Commissioner Kangra, SP Nurpur and SDM Nurpur, reflecting the administration’s strong commitment to making the anti-drug campaign effective at the grassroots level.
Appeal for Public Cooperation
Addressing the gathering, the SP Nurpur assured strict action against drug traffickers and urged the public to cooperate by sharing timely information with the police. He stressed that public participation is crucial for the success of the anti-drug drive.
The SDM Nurpur highlighted the need to further strengthen awareness programmes, particularly among youth, to prevent substance abuse and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Collective Pledge for a Drug-Free Society
The meeting concluded with a collective pledge to build a drug-free society, reinforcing the shared responsibility of administration and citizens in combating drug abuse and ensuring a safer future for the region.
