SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress has set its sights on the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, making strategic leadership appointments for the four parliamentary constituencies in the state. In a move aimed at infusing fresh energy and leadership into the political landscape, the Youth Congress has entrusted key responsibilities to dynamic leaders with a proven track record.
Jaivardhan Singh Khurana, Rajneesh Mehta, Akhil Agnihotri and Hotam Thakur have been appointed as in-charges for the Mandi, Hamirpur, Shimla and Kangra Lok Sabha constituencies, respectively. Khurana, Mehta and Agnihotri, all serving as vice-presidents of the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress, bring valuable experience and organisational skills to their new roles. Thakur, the state organisation general secretary, adds his strategic acumen to the leadership lineup.
These youth leaders have a history of working tirelessly to strengthen the organisation and have successfully handled significant responsibilities in the past. Their appointments reflect the party’s commitment to empowering young leaders and building a robust foundation for the upcoming elections.
The Youth Congress has initiated the ‘First Vote for India’ programme, aimed at connecting with first-time voters and expanding the presence of polling booths in every Assembly constituency. Additionally, programmes targeting youth couples have been implemented, with a goal to add 10 to 15 young individuals at every booth. This proactive approach is designed to enhance the party’s outreach, engage the youth, and secure their support in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Nigam Bhandari, Himachal Youth Congress president, emphasised the pivotal role played by the organisation in strengthening the Congress at the grassroots level. Drawing attention to the impactful activism undertaken before the previous Assembly elections, Bhandari highlighted how the Youth Congress had taken to the streets, organised agitations, sieges and strikes, contributing significantly to the party’s success. The continued grassroots activism is expected to play a crucial role in bolstering the Congress’ prospects in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
