Heart-wrenching scenes as groom performs last rites of elder brother, wife, infant daughter
MANDI: A pall of gloom descended over Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh as the last rites of five persons who lost their lives in a car accident were performed on Saturday (April 26, 2025).
Among the deceased were four members of the same family — Duni Chand, his wife Kanta Devi, their 10-month-old daughter Kinjal, residents of Tarour, and Meena Devi, a resident of Nepal.
The fifth deceased, Dahluram, was cremated separately in his ancestral village of Naun. All of them were part of a wedding procession when the accident took place.

At the Nagalni cremation ground, a deeply emotional scene unfolded as Sher Singh, the groom associated with the wedding procession, lit the funeral pyres of four of the deceased.
The devastating sight of four bodies from a single household being cremated together sent shockwaves throughout the region, leaving hundreds of mourners in tears.
Car accident turns wedding celebration into mourning
The tragic incident occurred yesterday afternoon when the car, carrying wedding guests returning from Segli to Bhatki Dhar, went out of control and crashed.
Duni Chand, his wife Kanta Devi, their infant daughter Kinjal and Meena Devi died at the scene, while Dahluram succumbed to his injuries en route to hospital. Duni Chand was real brother of the groom.
The accident also left Duni Chand’s two young daughters orphaned, who are now under the care of their uncle and grandfather.
Local residents and relatives have come forward to express their condolences and have assured all possible assistance to the grieving family.
Gohar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Laxman Singh Kanet said an immediate financial aid of Rs 25,000 had been provided to the families of each deceased as interim relief.
