Palampur – The 79th Sub-Divisional Independence Day celebration was held today with great enthusiasm at the Joint Office Complex in Palampur. On this occasion, SDM Palampur Netra Meti hoisted the national flag and took the salute of the march past. Palampur MLA Ashish Butail was present as the special guest at the event.
Extending Independence Day greetings to all, the SDM remembered the contribution and sacrifices of the brave sons of the nation in India’s freedom struggle and urged everyone to draw inspiration from them. She honored the families of Shaheed Major Somnath Sharma, Shaheed Captain Saurav Kalia, and Shaheed Major Sudhir Balia. Sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporation were also felicitated on this occasion.
Students from local educational institutions presented patriotic cultural performances that captivated the audience.
Earlier, the MLA and SDM, along with Mayor Gopal Nag, Deputy Mayor Rajkumar, council members, Municipal Commissioner Ashish Sharma, Tehsildar Sajan Bagga, Block Development Officer Bhanu Pratap Singh, Trade Association President Surender Sood, Joint Trade Association President Sanjeev Soni, and special attendees including Dr. N. K. Kalia (father of Shaheed Captain Saurav Kalia), Vaibhav Kalia (brother), Radhika (niece of Major Somnath Sharma), and Asha Balia (sister of Major Sudhir Balia), paid floral tributes to the statues of freedom fighters and martyrs.
