SHIMLA: A major fire erupted at Paronthi village of Jubbal tehsil in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh on New Year’s night, reducing about 80 rooms of seven houses to ashes. A power short-circuit is stated to have caused the fire.
The calamity struck around 1.15 am and the Jubbal fire station received the distress call at approximately 1.30 am. Firefighters from Jubbal, Kotkhai, Rohru and Chirgaon rushed to the scene with about half a dozen fire vehicles, but by then the fire had engulfed a significant portion of the houses.
The intensity of the fire hindered efforts to salvage belongings and most residents were unable to rescue their possessions from the rapidly spreading inferno.
Several families were away celebrating the New Year in Shimla and were not present in their homes when the fire broke. The flames were eventually brought under control after a six-hour operation. Despite successfully containing the fire by 7 am, smoke continued to billow from the charred remains of the houses.
No lives were lost in the devastating fire. The local administration officials have arrived at the scene and are assessing the extent of the damage.
