Two persons were killed while two others were injured in an accident near Dharampur in Theog tehsil of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh.
According to information, the accident occurred at Kyartu in Theog as the car fell into a gorge. There were four occupants in the car (CH03Q-1471) and they were on their way from Kyartu to Dharampur when the driver lost control of the car and it fell into 150-metre-deep gorge.
The police along with the help of the locals pulled the car riders out of the gorge.
The deceased have been identified as Ankush (25), son of Yoginder Singh of Kyaratu, and Abhishek (23), son of Raju, a resident of Dharampur. The injured include Lalit and Dalip who have been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla for treatment.
An eyewitness, Rahul, a resident of Paniyali village in Dharampur who too was travelling in his car behind the one that met with an accident, said after a refueling halt in Theog, the Chandigarh-registered car proceeded ahead. He said he tried to contact the four persons on the phone, but none of them responded. Rahul said he and his friend Kamlesh initiated a search and eventually found the damaged Maruti car having rolled down the road.
While Ankush and Abhishek were found dead on the spot, Lalit and Dalip were found trapped in the backseat of the vehicle with villagers rendering assistance to extricate them. They were rushed to the Theog government hospital, from where they were referred to the IGMC, Shimla. The police have registered an FIR and started inquest proceedings into the incident.
