Una: In a major breakthrough in the Hardeep murder case, the Una police in Himachal Pradesh have finally recovered the body of Hardeep Singh, alias Jiya, from a canal near Surewal in Anandpur Sahib in neighbouring Punjab on Tuesday (March 4, 2025).
Hardeep, a 19-year-old youth from Upper Arniala village in Una, was *kidnapped and *murdered on February 23. Investigations have revealed that the crime was allegedly orchestrated by his former girlfriend, who conspired with her new lover and his accomplices to *kill him.
Body found after five-day search
According to police reports, a dedicated five-day search operation was conducted with the help of local residents and divers. During the interrogation, the arrested suspects had confessed to kidnapping and murdering Hardeep before disposing of his body in the canal.
The police had already arrested three youth and a minor girl in connection with the crime. Following the recovery, the police confirmed that Hardeep’s post-mortem would be conducted at Tanda Medical College and Hospital in Kangra.
Victim was lured by his former girlfriend
The police are working closely with forensic experts, who have gathered crucial evidence from the crime scene. Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh confirmed that the case was under active investigation.
According to initial findings, Hardeep was lured by his former girlfriend under the pretence of a meeting. Upon his arrival, he was ambushed by three men and the minor girl, forcibly restrained and brutally assaulted.
A video of the kidnapping surfaced on social media on February 25, showing two men beating Hardeep. This prompted his family to lodge a complaint with the police.
Hardeep was strangled to death using a belt
After filing an FIR on February 26, the police arrested Taranjeet Singh from Dehlan and Manpreet Singh from Raipur Sahoda on February 27.
The next day, the prime accused, Vansh, alias Bantu, and the minor girl were apprehended from Hanogi in Mandi district.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that Hardeep was strangled to death using a belt before his body was dumped into the canal near Nangal. All four accused were present at the time of the crime.
Despite launching a search operation on February 28, divers initially failed to locate the body. However, significant evidence such as Hardeep’s blood-stained clothes was recovered near the canal and his mobile phone was traced to Chandigarh.
On March 5, the breakthrough came when the police finally recovered Hardeep’s body from the canal in Surewal. The case continues to unfold as police probe further into the motive and details of the gruesome crime. Authorities have assured a fair and swift investigation to bring justice to the victim’s family.
