SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal has attacked the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government over the rising debt of the state saying the Congress regime had taken loans worth Rs 11,000 after coming to power.
Bindal said the BJP had filed an RTI application, which revealed that after the formation of the government, the Himachal government had taken a loan of Rs 10,300 crore till October. After this, another loan of Rs 800 crore was taken, he said.
“On an average, the present government is taking loans of Rs 1,000 crore per month. By this speed, the government will take a loan of Rs 60,000 crore in five years. The loans are being taken, but the government must specify where the money is being spent?” he said.
Bindal said no new hospital, office, school or institute had been opened nor any guarantee had been fulfilled. “Then for what purpose is the government taking the loan? What is the justification for closing down 1,500 institutions when no money is being saved. What kind of system change is this?” he said.
On CM Sukhu’s statement about additional revenue increase of Rs 1,100 crore this year, Bindal said that it would definitely happen because the government had increased the tax on diesel by Rs 7.50 per litre. “Due to this, there is an additional burden of Rs 1,500 crore on the state people. The government is also trying to increase its income by increasing duty on electricity, raising bus fares, imposing water cess, etc,” he said.
