Palampur: A vehicle arriving from Bhawarna was caught illegally dumping garbage in Palampur in violation of the Himachal Pradesh Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, 1995. The incident was intercepted on the spot by Municipal Corporation councillor Sanjay Rathore, who took immediate action against the offender.

The dumping of non-biodegradable waste in public areas is a clear breach of the 1995 Act, which strictly prohibits such activities in drains, roads and open spaces across the state.

Palampur Mayor Gopal Nag condemned the incident and assured that strict legal action would be taken against such violators. “Such illegal practices will not be tolerated within municipal limits,” he said, adding that the matter would be pursued in accordance with the law.

Both the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner emphasised that surveillance and enforcement measures would be strengthened to prevent such violations in the future. They also urged citisens to support the city’s cleanliness efforts and to immediately report any such incidents to the municipal authorities.

The Himachal Pradesh Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, 1995, was enacted to regulate the use and disposal of non-biodegradable materials and to prevent pollution in public spaces.
