DHARAMSHALA:
In a landmark cultural initiative, Himachal Pradesh is poised to establish its own film, music and entertainment industry, thanks to a collective vision led by Dr Naresh Kumar Kaundal, a professor at Green Hills Engineering College and Director of ‘Himachal’s Got Talent’.

Dr Kaundal announced that groundwork for this initiative is underway and emphasised the need for united discussions among the state’s senior artistes to bring it to fruition.

Speaking to the media, Dr Kaundal said, “Until we lay the foundation for an industry, we cannot imagine its future. This is just the beginning. Any organisation starts with an idea and a clear vision, and everything else evolves with time and collective thought.”

Unified identity for Himachali artistes

One of the core objectives of the initiative is to bring all segments of Himachal’s entertainment talents, including musicians, filmmakers, performers, models and more, under a single official banner. This will allow individuals to proudly identify as part of the “Himachal Entertainment Industry” no matter where they go.

Plans are also in motion to provide official ID cards (akin to Aadhaar) for artistes to give the industry a legal and formal identity.

The initiative has received overwhelming support from several senior and celebrated figures in the arts. Those backing the move include ‘Nati King’ Kuldeep Sharma, folk singer Karnail Singh Rana, Bollywood director Pawan Sharma, director Ajay Saklani, TV and Bollywood actor Rohtas Gaur; singers Varsha Katoch, Dalip Sirmauri, Vicky Rajta and Dayal Prasad; actors Aryan Harnot and Mohit Parmar; writers and directors Sunny Shandil, Ramesh Raghuwanshi and Rishi Sharma; senior journalists Rajesh Katuria, Rajesh Dogra and Amit Mittu, Rudraksh Band’s director Ajay Bhatia, and event management figures such as Achhar Singh Parmar and SD Kashyap.

They all hailed the initiative as a “historic and golden moment” for Himachal Pradesh, which has long been brimming with talent but lacked a centralised industry framework.

Opening doors for new talent

Speaking in support, Kuldeep Sharma said the move would “open new pathways for emerging talent.” Directors Pawan Sharma and Ajay Saklani noted it would encourage local filmmaking and short film productions. Folk music legend Karnail Singh Rana called it a “milestone for Himachali music and culture.”

Dr Kaundal further stated that despite earlier efforts being delayed due to various challenges, 2025 is expected to mark the official foundation of Himachal’s Entertainment Industry, with plans to formally present the idea to the Honorable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

Chairman of Green Hills Engineering College, Kripal Singh Pasricha, extended his best wishes to Dr Kaundal and the entire artistic community for taking such a transformative step for Himachal’s cultural landscape.
