Nachan Scholar Selected for International Research, Heads to South Africa for Postdoctoral Fellowship

Dr Yugesh Singh Thakur, a resident of Kutahchi village under Rephal panchayat in Nachan Assembly constituency of Mandi district, has brought immense pride to the region with his selection for postdoctoral research at the prestigious University of the Free State (UFS), South Africa.

After completing his PhD in Physics, Dr Thakur carried out advanced research in fuel cell technology at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jaipur. His research work received wide appreciation in scientific circles for its innovation and relevance in the field of clean and sustainable energy.

In recognition of his academic excellence, dedication and consistent research contributions, Dr Thakur has been invited by the University of the Free State for postdoctoral research. At UFS, he will work in cutting-edge and future-oriented domains such as energy storage devices and water-splitting technologies, which are considered crucial for the development of next-generation renewable energy solutions.

Dr Thakur’s achievement has sparked a wave of happiness and pride across the Nachan region. Local residents have described it as a proud moment not only for Nachan constituency but for the entire Mandi district. They said his success is a strong inspiration for youth from rural backgrounds and proves that with hard work, determination and dedication, one can reach the international stage.

Family members, villagers and well-wishers have congratulated Dr Thakur and wished him a bright academic future. He hails from a humble family background. His father, Hem Raj Thakur, is a retired Army personnel, while his mother is a homemaker. Dr Yugesh has one sibling.

His journey from a small village in Himachal Pradesh to an internationally renowned research institution stands as a shining example of academic excellence, perseverance and commitment to scientific advancement.
