Dharamshala
Senior State Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shri Sanjay Sharma, in a press statement issued from Dharamshala today, launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led State Government. He termed the decision to exclude the State Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB) from the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act as a ‘Dark Chapter for Democracy’ and an ‘Institutional Shield for Corruption.’
Shri Sharma questioned the government’s intent, stating that the administration which came to power promising ‘Vyavastha Parivartan’ (Systemic Change) is now insulating its primary anti-corruption agency from public accountability. This notification clearly indicates that the government has a lot to hide from the people of Himachal Pradesh.
Key Highlights of the Press Release:
- Institutional Cover for Corruption: Shri Sharma alleged that by categorizing the Vigilance Department under ‘Security and Intelligence’ organizations under Section 24(4) of the RTI Act, the government aims to protect its favorite corrupt officials and leaders. The Vigilance Bureau is an investigative body for public welfare, not a clandestine intelligence agency.
- End of Transparency: The BJP spokesperson stated that following this decision, the citizens will no longer be able to seek information regarding the progress of corruption probes, delays in filing charge sheets, or details of major scams. This is a direct violation of the constitutional rights of common citizens.
- Betrayal of Public Trust: Shri Sharma asked, “What investigation is the Chief Minister afraid of?” He questioned if this ‘protective shield’ is being created to ensure that no questions are raised regarding alleged scams occurring during the government’s tenure.
•Delivering a stern message from Dharamshala, Sanjay Sharma demanded the immediate withdrawal of this notification. He clarified that if this ‘Black Law’ is not revoked, the Bharatiya Janata Party will not only launch a massive state-wide protest but will also challenge this dictatorial decision in the Hon’ble High Court.
Sanjay Sharma concluded by asserting that the RTI rights of the honest people of Himachal will not be allowed to be crushed at any cost, and the BJP will continue its crusade against corruption.
