Dharamshala — As the year 2026 approaches, Himachal Pradesh School Education Board Chairman Dr. Rajesh Sharma has appealed to school children to begin the new year with five meaningful resolutions that, he said, can shape their personality and future success.
Dr. Sharma emphasized that the start of a new year should not be limited to celebrations but should inspire students to open new doors of opportunity and self-growth.
The Five Resolutions for Students
- Limit Mobile Use — Keep mobile phones aside at least one hour before bedtime to protect sleep and eyesight.
- Read Daily — Develop the habit of reading for at least 30 minutes every day beyond textbooks, including stories, comics, or knowledge-enhancing books. The Board has recently released The Visionary to encourage this practice.
- Healthy Eating — Avoid junk food and include fruits, vegetables, and home-cooked meals in the daily diet. As a doctor, Dr. Sharma stressed that good nutrition is vital for immunity and growth.
- Play Outdoor Games — Engage in outdoor activities to stay physically fit and socially active. Citing WHO guidelines, he reminded that children need at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily.
- Adopt Good Manners and Values — Practice gratitude, respect elders, and help others. These habits, he said, build character and should be lifelong commitments.
“Resolutions Build Personality”
Dr. Sharma noted that learning new skills—whether vocabulary, painting, music, or sports—boosts confidence and prepares children for a competitive world. He also urged students to maintain a disciplined lifestyle by sleeping and waking up on time, as proper rest is essential for mental development.
Concluding his message, Dr. Sharma said, “The most important resolution is to embrace courtesy and values. Saying thank you, respecting elders, and helping others are habits that shape character and must be carried throughout life.”
