A major accident was averted in Himachal Pradesh’s tribal district Kinnaur on Saturday (March 30, 2024) morning as a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus overturned in the middle of the road after sliding on fresh snow near Nako.
According to information, there were 12 persons in the bus, including the driver and conductor, and all of them suffered minor injuries. All the injured were taken to hospital and discharged after being given first aid.
The bus (HP25A-5384) was on its way from Samdoh to Reckong Peo at around 8.30 am when the incident occurred. The bus skidded on snow at Nako and overturned on the road. If the bus had fallen off the road into an adjoining gorge, a major accident could have occurred.
As soon as the bus overturned, there was a lot of panic as the bus occupants started screaming. The local people took out all the injured from the bus and took them to Reckong Peo hospital. An HRTC official said that all the 12 persons were safe. “Some have suffered minor injuries and were given first aid. Snowfall has been occurring in most parts of Kinnaur district since last night, which has increased slipperiness on the roads. In such a situation, the movement on the roads can prove to be dangerous,’ said the official.
In view of the slippery roads, the local administration has also issued an advisory to the people to avoid unnecessary travel and avoid driving on slippery roads.
