Shimla: On the seventh day of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly’s budget session, the BJP legislative party staged a strong protest in the premises, accusing the Congress government of not implementing its promises. Subsequently, before the question hour began, opposition leader Jairam Thakur raised the issue of unemployment in the state, alleging that the government had not fulfilled its guarantee of providing employment.

Unfulfilled Promises Highlighted

In the assembly, opposition leader Jairam Thakur pointed out that the Congress manifesto explicitly states that as soon as the government is formed, one lakh unemployed people will be given government jobs in the state. Additionally, the manifesto pledges to employ five lakh youth within five years. Thakur emphasized these assurances, reading out pertinent lines from the Congress manifesto. Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania called for keeping a copy of the manifesto in the house.

Clarification from CM Sukhu

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu clarified the distinction between the Congress’s 10-point guarantee letter and the manifesto. He accused the opposition of mixing both documents. According to Sukhu, if the manifesto commits to employing five lakh people in five years, that promise will be fulfilled. Moreover, if it specifies providing one lakh government jobs, that commitment will also be honored. Sukhu highlighted that 30,000 jobs have already been created this year, and the remaining 70,000 will be provided within the stipulated five-year timeframe. The overarching commitment, as per Sukhu, is to ensure employment for five lakh people in five years.
