Dr Husan Chand from SPU Mandi awarded prestigious Mary Sklodowska Curie postdoctoral fellowship

Mandi: In a significant achievement, Dr Husan Chand, currently serving as guest faculty in Industrial Chemistry at Sardar Patel University Mandi, has been selected for the prestigious Mary Sklodowska Curie Action (MSCA-2024) postdoctoral fellowship by the European Commission.

Dr Chand’s research proposal focusing on “Light-Driven C-X Bond Activation Catalysis as a Single-Atom Catalyst” stood out among numerous applications, securing him this fellowship. Under this program, he will conduct his postdoctoral studies at Politecnico di Milano University in Italy.

Hailing from Nalagarh, Dr Chand has a remarkable academic background, having completed his B.Sc. from Government P G College Nalagarh and his M.Sc and M.Phil from HPU Shimla. He obtained his Ph.D from IIT Mandi under the supervision of Prof Venkata Krishna, where his research focused on “Dual-dimension Asymmetric Catalysts for Carbon Dioxide Transformation and Waste Water Treatment.”

The MSCA postdoctoral fellowship is known for its competitiveness, with 8,039 proposals received worldwide this year. Out of these, only 1,250 participants were selected by the European Commission, making Dr Chand’s achievement truly commendable.

As part of the fellowship, Dr Chand will receive a generous living allowance from the European Commission, encompassing his salary, research expenses, and overhead costs. His monthly stipend is expected to be approximately 4000 euros, equivalent to around Rs 3.5 lakh per month.

This fellowship not only recognizes Dr Chand’s academic excellence but also highlights the growing prominence of Indian researchers on the global stage. His groundbreaking research endeavours are poised to contribute significantly to the field of catalysis and hold promise for addressing pressing environmental challenges.
