Mandi women’s hockey team bags third spot in state-level games, players laud association president Raja Singh Malhotra for support

MANDI: The 11th state-level senior women’s hockey games were played in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur from February 1 to 4. Eight teams from the state participated, and the Mandi women’s hockey team showcased exceptional team spirit and secured the third spot. The Hamirpur team claimed the tournament while Sirmaur secured the second position.

The emerging Mandi women’s team, led by captain Priya and including players like Sonia, Gitanjali, Meenakshi, Sapna, Sangeeta, Satya, Bharti, Reshma Kumari, Resha Kumari, Babita, Amarpali, Shagun, Priti, Maya Shruit, Payal, Mallika and Aarushi, displayed remarkable talent.

Coach Naresh Sharma and manager Bhupinder Sen, speaking to TNR, acknowledged the Mandi women’s hockey team’s outstanding performance, emphasising the unpredictable nature of the game. “Those who perform better on the big day take away the title,” they asserted.

In a prior achievement, the Mandi women’s junior hockey team secured the first runners-up title in the university-level championship in November. The hockey players expressed gratitude to Raja Singh Malhotra, president of the Mandi District Hockey Association, for his unwavering support, providing both financial and mental assistance to the hometown players.
