Dharamshala: Following electoral setbacks in Kangra, the State Party President Dr. Rajeev Bindal faced a barrage of tough questions from journalists during a press conference at Dhauladhar hotel on Tuesday. Bindal was here to announce visit of national part president JP Nadda.

Questions were raised as the saffron party had experienced defeats in both assembly elections in 2022 and recently held municipal corporation elections here, prompting scrutiny of the leadership’s performance.

Bindal, while addressing the media, extensively highlighted the achievements of the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the focus swiftly shifted to the party’s underwhelming performance in the recent electoral battles particularly in Kangra.

Pressed by journalists on the electoral defeats, Bindal urged a forward-looking approach, saying, “Ab Piche ki baat chodo (Leave the past now), talk about the future.”

Despite avoiding delving into the details of the losses, Bindal asserted that the party is gearing up to adopt a tough stance against the ruling Congress government. He criticized what he deemed as bad policies and false promises made to the public by Congress.

Attempting to shift the narrative, Bindal underscored the BJP’s past contributions, particularly the initiation of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh during the party’s previous term. He laid the blame for the project’s current delay squarely on the ruling Congress, alleging their failure to deposit a required sum of 30 crore rupees for the project’s execution.

Looking ahead, Bindal announced the upcoming visit of the national party president, JP Nadda, on February 3, 2024. Nadda is slated to address a rally during his visit to the political capital of Himachal. After the rally, Nadda will spend a night in Dharamshala and depart for Delhi the next day after convening a party meeting.

As the BJP grapples with electoral setbacks, the forthcoming visit and activities surrounding JP Nadda’s presence are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the party’s narrative and strategy in Himachal Pradesh. The party leaders face the challenge of not only addressing past defeats but also regaining political ground in this key region.
